Figurative Language

Alliteration:
-is the repetition of a consonant for an effect

e.g., water water swirled

Simile:
-is a comparison between two unlike things using like or as

e.g.,  cold as ice
         life is like a box of chocolates

Metaphor:
-is a comparison of objects, qualities or actions without an expressed indication of the relationship between them

e.g.,  cotton ball hands
         stone hands
         her voice is a song

Personification:
-is when the attribute of human or animal qualities are given to objects

e.g., the wind whistled through the trees
        the fog crept in
